3 stars | This series is interesting, but it's slow as hell。 I don't get how it's supposed to grab kids' attention。 I just want to know what's going on。 3 stars | This series is interesting, but it's slow as hell。 I don't get how it's supposed to grab kids' attention。 I just want to know what's going on。 。。。more

Still absolutely EPIC!

Breea Milburn,
One of the best things to happen in 2020? Discovering this series。 Thank you, Stephen McCraine。
Adira,
I seem to be reading a lot of books out of order this year, don't I? I saw this in my school library (we're open, but this was my first time in the library since。。 a long time), and it was on the new books shelf, next to the second, third, and fourth, so that combined with the fact that I was in rush made me think this was actually the first。 At some point during reading this, I flipped to the back and there I saw that this was not actually the first and was the seventh。 However, I still enjoyed I seem to be reading a lot of books out of order this year, don't I? If I have time, I'll add more to this review after catching up on the previous books。 。。。more

Cathy,
This series continues to mesmerize me。 We finally get some huge plot developments in Volume 7 as Amy gets more aggressive with her quest for answers about who Oliver really is。 In a Lois Lane reminiscent solo stake out, Amy barely escapes an encounter with an unknown military force while attempting to spy on Oliver’s home。 The risk earns her a huge revelation about Oliver, however。 Also- May we talk about that terrifying dreamscape encounter with a skin crawling omnipotent-esk being?? Just as long held questions are being answered, we now have so many more dropped into our laps。 What is this creature? Is it real or a figment of Amy’s subconscious? Is it benevolent or malicious? Amy’s meddling also starts to have unfortunate consequences for one of her friends, potentially amping up the danger and the pace of this usually cozy and quiet series。 To balance out the sci-fi drama, South Pines High is in the midst of homecoming week, so enter all the everyday high school happenings of parades, football, and dances that come along with it。 I love these slice of life, mundane plot lines as much as I do the main mystery of Oliver。 (Yay- Schafer and Tammie! Sorry, my lad, Zeph。) I, along with so many other readers, am hoping that Cassie’s unhealthy body image and diet-centric approach will be soon addressed。 I would love to see a lot of character growth for her。 Lastly, the artwork! Those panel layouts are 👌🏼。 Looking forward to enjoying Volume 8。 。。。more
Rod Brown,
This series keeps traipsing along at its own pace, with some minor plot revelations and some little relationship developments doled out like breadcrumbs to keep me tagging along after。 This volume is better than last, and I hold out hope that one day something will happen to reward all my patience。At this point, I'd be happy if some of the main characters just got last names。 There were two opportunities this volume that the author awkwardly sidestepped with a giant blurry computer screen and a This series keeps traipsing along at its own pace, with some minor plot revelations and some little relationship developments doled out like breadcrumbs to keep me tagging along after。 This volume is better than last, and I hold out hope that one day something will happen to reward all my patience。At this point, I'd be happy if some of the main characters just got last names。 There were two opportunities this volume that the author awkwardly sidestepped with a giant blurry computer screen and a sports announcer who narrates a football game like this: "An amazing catch at the 25-yard line by South Pines wide receiver, David!" I don't attend a lot of sporting events, but I don't think that's how they do it。 。。。more

Destiny Henderson,
This volume shows real progress: we get an idea of WHAT Oliver really is, Zeph confesses, and a mysterious being shows up。 The sci-fi aspect has been amped up to 10 here, and I’m excited to see where it goes。 The story still has its colorful, slice-of-life innocence intact, but I wouldn’t be surprised if things begin getting darker
Timea,
Coming back to this comic always feels very comforting。 I like being reminded of all the small things that I forgot from when I was first catching up on the webcomic! In this volume, Amy is even more determined to figure out Oliver's secret。 However, she endangers herself more than she realizes。 At the same time, the homecoming prom (and the finale of the first arc!) approaches with all its drama。I really appreciate finding certain aspects in the comic that are foreshadowing later events! Especially when Amy tries to make sense of her discoveries。 It's a very enjoyable read! Although, the new friendships Amy has made are being sidelined by her need to find out about Oliver, which is a bit sad to see。 The upside is that there is still a lot of character development in the side characters befriending each other in Amy's absence, so I didn't mind at all。The story continues with stunning character depth and increasing suspense。 I can't wait for the next volume! 。。。more
Becky B,
Amy starts to put together some weird clues about Oliver, and decides to investigate further with a drone she borrows from Tammie。 Amy's so absorbed in this she accidentally neglects some of her friends who are swept up in Spirit Week and Homecoming drama。 Ahh, we finally get some better clues about Oliver, while the mystery also gets a new twist。 I liked the way some of Amy's different friend groups bond in her absence。 My heart goes out to poor Zeph but we saw it coming。 Can't wait for the nex Amy starts to put together some weird clues about Oliver, and decides to investigate further with a drone she borrows from Tammie。 Amy's so absorbed in this she accidentally neglects some of her friends who are swept up in Spirit Week and Homecoming drama。 Ahh, we finally get some better clues about Oliver, while the mystery also gets a new twist。 I liked the way some of Amy's different friend groups bond in her absence。 My heart goes out to poor Zeph but we saw it coming。 Can't wait for the next one。 Students will be very excited that this is hitting our shelves this week。 Space Boy has a very good fan base among our middle and high school students。Notes on content: No language issues。 No sexual content beyond a little peck on a cheek。 Some students are in potentially dangerous situations with the military guarding Oliver。 It is just hinted at though。 Nothing happens on page。 。。。more

Kristen,
The adventure continues, and just as Amy has figured out some truths about Oliver, it seems he is destined to walk out of her life forever。 But the truths she has discovered might mean danger for her and her friends。 Looking forward to number 8, which comes out in October。
Abbey,
This story is finally getting somewhere! The last 2 volumes seemed a little slow and stagnant。 But we finally get a look into Oliver and Dr。 Kim's secret life。 This story is finally getting somewhere! Breelynd Huntley,
I feel like we're finally getting some answers, but at the same time, there are some issues with this story。 I agree with another reader who talked about Cassie's dieting starting to sound more like an eating disorder and I hope this is addressed in the next volume。 Amy is having a hard time thinking about anyone other than Oliver and it's really starting to affect her friendships。 I feel like we're finally getting some answers, but at the same time, there are some issues with this story。 I agree with another reader who talked about Cassie's dieting starting to sound more like an eating disorder and I hope this is addressed in the next volume。 Amy is having a hard time thinking about anyone other than Oliver and it's really starting to affect her friendships。 。。。more

Lisa,
with each volume i get more and more frustrated by the way in which Cassie's hyperfixation on diet culture is portrayed。 this girl is so on the way into an eating disorder that all of my alarm bells are ringing at this point。 leaving a statement like "i'm only eating an apple for lunch because of the dance tomorrow" completely unaddressed is concerning and dangerous and wrong, especially because this is a book series that is also aimed at kids。 with each volume i get more and more frustrated by the way in which Cassie's hyperfixation on diet culture is portrayed。 this girl is so on the way into an eating disorder that all of my alarm bells are ringing at this point。 leaving a statement like "i'm only eating an apple for lunch because of the dance tomorrow" completely unaddressed is concerning and dangerous and wrong, especially because this is a book series that is also aimed at kids。 。。。more

Another phenomenal installment。 I just really love this art, the characters, the story, the intrigue。 It’s just so well done and a lot of people sleep on this graphic novel series。 Please ready Volume 1 if you haven’t already!
